Born from an egg on a mountain top…
I can’t help it! Call me a 1980′s tragic. When ever I see monkeys, my mind starts singing the theme to the TV Show “Monkey Magic!”. Yes, I like that show – I admit it, there!
When we were in Langkawi, we hired a car and drove to the north side of the island – mainly to go to the beaches. The beaches weren’t that easy to get to, but we did find MONKEYS!!!
We were driving along the road and we saw some cyclists who were stopped. They were being approached by these three monkeys. So, we pulled over and the monkeys came towards us. After about 5min, we jumped in the car before they were too close and drove off.
Later, we went to one of the waterfalls after another abortive attempt to get to the beach. As we were approaching the waterfall, a troupe of monkeys were coming down the track in the opposite direction! So, we watched them, took photos and let them pass. This took a fair while and they were so cute! They would slip by us. They have such human expressions.
When we returned to our hire car, the monkeys were hanging about in the car park – not sure why, maybe they were waiting for their lift. Anyway, they were rustling through the bin, eating stuff left amongst the rubbish and generally having a good time. One looked like he was drinking a beer tinnie.
As I was reapplying my sunscreen, a monkey jumped on our hire car. Staying outside, I quickly shut the door, so she wouldn’t jump in. The monkey was sitting on the roof on my side for a while. Darlene was on her side, so she quickly opened her door and jumped in. As the monkey dashed over her side as Darlene closed the door, I jumped in my side. Then the monkey got cranky! It was hissing at Darlene, baring her monkey teeth and looking at the packet of mixed nuts on the back seat.
I didn’t know what to do – so I started to drive off. The monkey got the hint and jumped off after a little while. I was only going slow!
The Theme to Monkey Magic!
Born from an egg on a mountain top
The punkiest monkey that ever popped
He knew every magic trick under the sun
To tease the Gods
And everyone and have some fun
Monkey magic, Monkey magic (repeat 4 times)
What a cocky saucy monkey this one is
All the Gods were angered
And they punished him
Until he was saved by a kindly priest
And that was the start
Of their pilgrimage west
Monkey magic, Monkey magic, Monkey magic, Monkey magic
With a little bit of monkey magic
There’ll be fireworks tonight
With a little bit of monkey magic
Every thing will be all right
Born from an egg on a mountain top
The punkiest monkey that ever popped
He knew every magic trick under the sun
To tease the Gods
And everyone and have some fun
Monkey magic, Monkey magic, Monkey magic, Monkey magic
I know you sang along!
