WARNING! This blog contains cats…
After Singapore, we went to Langkawi. We stayed at Temple Tree Hotel, which is a collection of historical buildings relocated by some rice paddies. Not close to the beach, but beautiful surroundings, lovely pool and thousands of cats. Part of the reason we chose to stay here was that it was also part animal shelter – and DJ particularly loves dogs, cats and other animals!
Our hotel room was basically 1/2 a historic 1930′s house that was originally on the island of Penang and home of a Chinese contractor (http://www.templetree.com.my/penang.html) – hence the name “Penang House”. We stayed in Penang 1, which was lovely and had a wooden bathtub in one room, a lounge room, a tv room, a bedroom and another shower/toilet room. And two cats – Socks (aka Drooly McDroolie) and Snowy. Both were very affectionate, but Socks had annoying habit of drooling as her tongue always hung out.
We also hired a car and explored the island. The Cable Car was amazing and scary. Goes very high, so it feels weird trusting your life in a thin cable and Malaysian construction techniques. On this little day trip, we went to an isolated northern beach, swam in the warm calm waters and lay on the beach and read.
Other than that, we just relaxed. Sat by the pool. Swam in the pool. Read by the pool. Drank cocktails by the pool. Drank $1 Hoegardens by the pool as the entire island is duty free. Had a massage. Ate. Slept. Ate. Read. Slept. Watched the rain. Patted cats.
